What are they?
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a sleep-related breathing disorder that occurs when the muscles in the throat relax during sleep, causing tissues in the back of the throat to collapse and block the airway.People with this condition often wake up gasping for air or choking in the middle of the night. Two common symptoms of OSA are loud snoring and daytime sleepiness.The sleep appliances are designed to gently shift the lower jaw forward in a therapeutic position during sleep, which activates the airway muscles and ligaments to prevent the airway from collapsing.
